I’m 2-years-old and weigh 84 lbs. so I’m your girl if you’re looking for a little older and probably wiser. I say probably only because I’m still discovering who I am and what makes me extra special. I know being a Great Pyrenees means I’m part of a proud, loyal breed that fearlessly protects their humans one minute then jumps into their laps to cuddle the next. If you please email info@greatpyratlanta.com or click either “Contact Us” or “Apply to Adopt” below, the awesome volunteers will tell you all the endearing things they’ve learned about me since I dictated this short story. Afterall, I’m just getting started and I’m excited to find my foster and then my forever family.

Our main mission at GPRA is to find the right permanent home for Great Pyrenees in distress, whether they are strays or from an overpopulated kill or no-kill shelter. We don’t care how old they are or what their medical condition is because we will make sure they receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, spaying or neutering, and even behavioral training if necessary.

Did you know Great Pyrenees aren’t allowed to sit next to their owners on airplanes? Shocking but true and why this 6-year-old, 84 lb. GPRA alumna needs a new home and why my mom is so sad. She’s suddenly traveling as much as a month at a time for something called a job and said it’s too selfish to keep me. I’m housetrained, have good leash manners, and enjoy playing with other dogs. I bravely protect my home from delivery trucks as Pyrs do by barking. I hold court on the back deck, surveying the neighborhood and decreeing all in order. So, if you’re looking for beautiful (you saw my pictures, right?), loyal, and trustworthy couch company, please email info@greatpyratlanta.com or click “Apply to Adopt” below. My mom’s back on the road so while my foster is very sweet, I’m ready to go home.

I know four words in sign language, want to teach me more? I’m Lexi, a 2-year-old, 84 lb. indoor girl who will “sit”, “stay”, “come”, and “place” on command—when you show me the right signals. Yep, I may turn my head when I hear a few LOUD sounds but I am deaf. All that means is you will have to be where I can see you so I know what you are asking me to do. It also means I may be a little skittish with new places and people because I can’t hear. And, it means that you’ll need to be careful coming from behind me because you might startle me. The good news is, I’m house trained, love walks, can be home alone, and will find all the air conditioning vents in the house. Oh, speaking of home, GPRA’s helping me find a new one because my current family has to move to a place, well, let’s just think about the good stuff ahead. Also, my name means “to defend” so if you’re looking for a protector to guard you against those large inflatable things in back yards (I do NOT like those things!) or announce strangers, I’m your girl. Just remember if I accidentally get loose, I won’t hear you calling me. But, you can call GPRA, or better yet, email info@greatpyratlanta.com or click “Apply to Adopt” below and we can get this party (without inflatables) started!

Looking for a young, mega-fun guy fall in love with? Choose me, choose me, Spencer, a 1-year-old, 87 lb. gentle, sweet boy who’s housetrained and loves kids. I lived with a Rottweiler once who either didn’t like me or I didn’t like him, but I bet a dog-smart human can help me get along with other dogs. And also reassure me loud noises and aerosol spray cans will not hurt me. I don’t recall being in a thunderstorm so it might be fine. Maybe we can we sit together and see how it goes? If you want to try, please email info@greatpyratlanta.com, or click “Apply to Adopt” below.

I’m Patches, a 1.5 year old, 85 lb. girl ready to learn! My family adopted me at eight weeks. I love them, but I’m older and bigger now which means the side affects of not training me as a puppy are bigger, too. So, GPRA agreed to help me find a Pyrfect home with dog-smart humans. Right now I spend a lot of time alone outside. It’s boring so I dig holes. Being inside is unusual so I pace and don’t know what to do with myself there either. Sometimes the kids play with me, which I love, because they’re young like me and we run around together. My mom says I’m smart and know some basic commands; spoiler alert, I still need a little more house training. My heart tells me I’ll be a great dog if the family is strong enough to teach me good manners even when I’m so adorable they just can’t stand it. Kinda seems like my eight-week old puppy-self is still telling my body what to do, huh? If you’re ready to help me grow-up, and then keep me furever, please email info@greatpyratlanta.com or click the “Apply to Adopt” button below.

I am 4-year-old Sage and all 84 lbs of me is very proud to serve my country by loving and protecting a military family. I am also sad because Hurricane Michael took our Panama City home and my family is VERY sad because now we each have to move to new places but neither of us knows where yet. I like being outside a lot, especially when my people are with me.  Being alone for too long is a little scary so it’s good if you can be home with me most of the time. I’m happy sleeping in my crate at night–with a nightlight, please—and I like short day naps in there, too. I am very playful with kids and other dogs, I know to “stay” and “come”, I think running with you is more fun than walking on a leash, and I am not too sure about strangers. However, I’m very sure I’m the Pyrfect happy, talkative, active dog for someone. If it’s you, please email info@greatpyratlanta.com or click the “Apply to Adopt” button below.

My name is Chief and I am a 2 year old young intelligent male. How do I know I am intelligent? Well I spent some time on my own in Alabama and was able to be found by a wonderful family who took me in and kept me safe and got me medical attention. I am in a wonderful foster home now and get to share living space with another dog and cats. I am more like a piece of Velcro. I love being with humans and getting all the attention. If you believe I would be a great companion, then contact GPRA today at info@greatpyratlanta.com for more information about me.
