Hey! How are you? I am gentle giant Howie! This is what GPRA knows about me.
“Howie is a sweet boy. He loves to cuddle and is curious and smart.”
“Howie loves children.” (Yes, I am easy-going, and kids are lots of fun!)
“Howie is good with other dogs.” (Actually, I will be happiest if there is another dog in my future home as I love having a buddy!)
“Howie knows commands such as ‘sit,’ ‘stay,’ ‘come,’ ‘off,’ and ‘down.’ (Yes, I know the commands. But, like most Pyrs, I might be a bit lazy remembering.)
“Howie loves car rides.” (Yep, this is on the top of my favorites list.)
You see, there are many great things to love about me.
Oh, two more things, please never crate me because it is my biggest fear. And, when you leave the house, I’m a very good boy and will be just fine hanging out with my fur-friend waiting to greet you.
Your faithful gentle giant, Howie

Our main mission at GPRA is to find the right permanent home for Great Pyrenees in distress, whether they are strays or from an overpopulated kill or no-kill shelter. We don’t care how old they are or what their medical condition is because we will make sure they receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, spaying or neutering, and even behavioral training if necessary.

Hi, I am Socks. Sadly, I was abandoned and left behind due to a very distressing home circumstance. I will spare you the details.

Thankfully, a caring neighbor knew what was happening and stepped in to help rescue me. I still miss my human children, but GPRA tells me that there are lots of families out there looking for a friendly, loving, big, fluffy boy like me. It feels good to be hopeful again.

Although my guardian neighbor told GPRA that I am a charming and playful boy, my home life was quite turbulent. It will take time to decompress and trust. A loving and patient owner who will invest time in helping me feel safe and less anxious will get me on the right path. I will also benefit from dedicated time and training to learn good manners. It will be helpful to tether me on car rides until I can chill out more, but I promise to work hard to make you proud.

As GPRA learns more about me, I will update you.
Thank you for saving me and giving me hope for a fresh start, GPRA!

Pyr-eager for my happily-ever-after, Socks

PS You will understand why my name is Socks when you meet me!

Hi, Everybody! I’m Toby Clay, and I can’t wait to meet you! I’m a salt of the earth, or clay of the earth, type of dog. I get along with dogs, cats, and kiddos! I really enjoy snuggling and playing with those little ones. I’m also housetrained and know the commands: “sit” and “down.” I even like to be groomed! My GPRA friends say I’m good in the car too. Anyway you look at it, I’m a really good boy! I’d love to come home and become a part of your family.
