GPRA AMBASSADORS
Everyone in the GPRA family serve as ambassadors of both the breed and Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta. We have all been asked many times – What a beautiful dog, what kind of dog is that? Please spread the word about our magnificent Gentle Giants and direct them to our website. If you would like some business cards to hand out, please indicate on the form below.
ONGOING VOLUNTEER NEEDS
INTAKE TRANSPORT
Help is always needed to transport dogs once they have been approved into the program. This usually involves a pick up from a shelter or another transporter and then on to our Veterinarian. You must be 18 years old to be on the transport team.
DOG WALKERS
When our dogs are being boarded, they need extra hugs, kisses and walks. All dog walking is done at a boarding facility in Alpharetta. Walkers must be at least 18 years old.
ADOPTION DAY AND OTHER TAXI
Adoption Days are held every 2 or 3 weeks at the Pet Smart near Perimeter Mall. It is important that all of our adoptable PYRS come to Adoption Day to be seen. Rides are needed for those that are in boarding in Alpharetta or at our Veterinarian in Roswell. This role also involves holding the dog for potential adopters to meet during Adoption Day and then taking them back afterwards. We also have a need for other short term taxi to/from vet appointments, etc. You must be 18 years old to be on the taxi team.
ADOPTION DAYS
Adoption Days are held every 2 or 3 weeks at the Pet Smart near Perimeter Mall. Help is sometimes needed to hold a dog, set up, get water and other miscellaneous tasks. And scratching a few ears and petting is always welcome. You must be 16 years of age to participate at Adoption Day.
FOSTER TEAM Apply to Foster
Finding Foster Homes for our adoptable PYRS is a critical area of GPRA. Getting our orphans into a home environment and learning all about them allows us to better find the pyrfect home for them. We are always looking to add to our “foster families.” These families provide a loving home for a dog until their “Furever” home is found. All you have to do is provide love, food, exercise and attention. We pay for any necessary medical costs. In addition, any expenditure you may incur (including food) is tax deductible. Click the Apply to Foster box above and you do not need to complete the Volunteer Application below.
OCCASIONAL VOLUNTEER NEEDS
SPECIAL EVENTS
Periodically during the year, volunteers are needed during special events. Our annual Gentle Giants in the Park event takes lots of helpers. Another examples are GPRA night at the Atlanta Gladiators game where we bring 15 to 30 PYRS to raise awareness and some much needed funds, marching in the Childrens’ Hospital Christmas parade, and other fundraisers and get-togethers. These are great fun and are always looking for more ideas. These events will be promoted on our website.
OTHER VOLUNTEER TEAMS
We are a 100% volunteer organization (including the Board) and there are several teams of dedicated volunteers that make us the success we are. Additions to these teams are on an as needed basis and usually come from those that have been involved in other volunteer activities. So please get involved.
ADOPTION TEAM
Reviews new applications and works with potential adopters to find the Pyrfect match.
HOME VISITS
A very important step of our adoption process is our home visit. We have volunteers visit prospective families to ensure that their home environment is compatible with a Great Pyrenees’ needs.
INTAKE TEAM
Evaluates dogs in shelters and with owners to be considered for our rescue. Once accepted, this team arranges for transportation and gathering the medical records required to bring a dog into GPRA’s care.
