My Story
Meet Salem – The Gentle Giant with a Goofy Heart
Hi there, I’m Salem – a sweet, goofy, and smart Great Pyrenees working on learning how to trust and love again. I’ve been in my foster home since November, and wow, what a journey it’s been! I live with other Pyr’s here, and I’m doing really well learning the ropes of home life, one paw at a time.
I’m a bit reserved at first with people, but once I trust you? Watch out—I’ll be your loyal companion for life. You’ll know I’ve accepted you when I offer you my big ol’ Pyr paw or gently rest my head between your legs for a massage. Oh, and I definitely talk during playtime—I’ve got lots to say when the toys come out!
I’m a smart boy! I’ve already mastered “sit” and “paw,” and we’re working on “stay,” “down,” and “heel.” I walk nicely on a leash, but I do get excited when I see joggers, kids, or delivery trucks—I’m still learning that not everything needs chasing!
I’m great in the house—totally house-trained and well-mannered. I don’t chew, counter-surf, or make a mess. I’ll sleep wherever I feel safest, usually the kitchen or laundry room, and I love being inside where it’s calm and comfortable. I even respect fences, although I do love a good dig in the yard. What can I say? I’m an outdoor enthusiast at heart.
I’ve come a long way with handling and grooming. Just recently, I let my foster mom brush my whole body—and I even enjoyed it! I still have some boundaries, but I communicate clearly when I’m uncomfortable. Trust is everything to me.
I’d do best in a calm home without kids or cats, and I need slow, respectful introductions to other dogs. I’ve made a strong bond with one of the dogs here, but I’m still learning how to share space with others. A patient, loving family that understands my past and wants to help me grow would be perfect for me.
Oh, and fun fact: after I do my ‘business’, I do a happy dance—tail tucked, zoomies activated. My foster mom says it’s one of the cutest things she’s ever seen.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart, a goofy spirit, and a soul that’s learning to shine, I might just be your guy. With time, love, and a little patience, I promise I’ll be the best friend you’ve ever had.
Love,
Salem
Donate to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta
Our main mission at GPRA is to find the right permanent home for Great Pyrenees in distress, whether they are strays or from an overpopulated kill or no-kill shelter. We don’t care how old they are or what their medical condition is because we will make sure they receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, spaying or neutering, and even behavioral training if necessary.
