My Story
Hi there Pyr friends! My name is Monroe and I ADORE attention and spending time with my humans. I have come to GPRA because my former human believed I needed a stronger leader. While I am leash trained, I need some redirection to keep me in line. I know “sit”, but not “stay”. I’m a big boy that likes to roam, so a home with a fenced yard would be best. I’m not really interested in toys, but love to play games with my humans. One of my favorites is when I walk between my human’s legs while getting petted on my sides. Then, I lay down and roll over for belly rubs. One of the phrases I know is, “who wants a belly rub?” I like to be sung to as well; any silly song will do.
I used to have a sister Pyr and we got along well. I don’t use a crate, but sleep on a dog bed. I drool and bark when I’m nervous. I just need reassurance/redirection to know that I’m safe and loved. If there is another dog in the household, I should be fed separately because I am food motivated/reactive. If you are an experienced dog owner who is looking for a big couch potato, I would love to meet you!

Our main mission at GPRA is to find the right permanent home for Great Pyrenees in distress, whether they are strays or from an overpopulated kill or no-kill shelter. We don’t care how old they are or what their medical condition is because we will make sure they receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, spaying or neutering, and even behavioral training if necessary.
