My Story
Hi, I’m Maddie! I’m in boarding right now and doing really well. I had the chance to stay in a home for a day, and I did fantastic! I’m a happy girl who loves attention and will let you know when I’m ready for some love. I’ll even bark and whine to get your attention when I see you—just in case you don’t notice me right away!
When I’m walking by other dogs in the kennel, I get excited and want to stop and sniff. I also get pretty eager to play when I see other dogs, but I haven’t had the chance to interact with too many. I did ride in with another Pyr who was also saved from the shelter that I was in and we did well together.
I walk well on a leash, but I’m not a big fan of moving cars or loud noises—I get a little spooked, but I recover quickly. When it comes to eating, I eat well and haven’t shown any signs of food aggression. I’m housebroken too, so no messes here!
I’m super sweet and love being touched—no issues with head or body pets. I’m also really good about taking ear meds, though I get a little squirmy. I love pill pockets with my meds, so giving me oral medication is a breeze! I’m learning to sit and already know my name, which is pretty cool. I even do a little “Pyr Paw” trick, though not on command just yet.
I’m a pretty social girl overall and I’m looking forward to finding my forever home where I can continue to share all my love and energy.

Our main mission at GPRA is to find the right permanent home for Great Pyrenees in distress, whether they are strays or from an overpopulated kill or no-kill shelter. We don’t care how old they are or what their medical condition is because we will make sure they receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, spaying or neutering, and even behavioral training if necessary.
