My Story

Hi everyone, I’m Duke! 🤍

I’m currently living in a foster home where I’ve been learning just how wonderful it feels to be part of a family. Now I’m ready for the next chapter — finding a forever family of my very own!

When I first arrived at my foster home, I was a little cautious and needed some time to figure everything out. My foster family gave me the patience and space I needed to feel safe, and they say one of their favorite things has been watching me bloom. Once I know I can trust you, my silly, sweet and affectionate personality really starts to shine!

I’m a handsome, athletic guy with a wonderful balance of energy and relaxation. I love being outside, running around and playing, but I’m equally happy hanging out inside and relaxing with my family. At night, I like to come over while my foster is lying on the couch, put my big head on them and politely request some pets. What can I say? Even big guys need their cuddle time!

I’m also quite the playful pup. I have a great time with my foster family’s bully mix — we love playing, wrestling and chewing on each other. But I also know when to tone things down. I live with two smaller tripod dogs, and I’m very respectful and gentle with them because I seem to understand that they’re a little more delicate. Pretty smart of me, right?

I’ve been working hard on my manners, too! I know Sit, I’m working on Down, and as for Come…well, apparently that one sometimes depends on my mood. 😉 Hey, I am a Pyr!

My foster family has also been working with me on leash training, and I’ve done really well. I’m not easily distracted when we’re out walking, and I’ve been good with the people and animals I’ve met.

I respect my foster family’s fence, I’m not a counter surfer, and I don’t guard my food, bones or other goodies. My foster can even take my bowl or a bone away without a problem.

I’m still a young guy learning what’s expected of me in a home, so I’ll need a family willing to continue my training. If I get bored, I may decide that your pillows need a little rearranging — or perhaps some creative redesigning. 😇 Keeping me active, giving me appropriate things to chew and continuing to teach me good house manners will help keep me on the right track.

One of the best things about me is how far I’ve already come. When I first arrived, unfamiliar noises like cows mooing, a neighbor’s donkey braying and cars going by made me nervous. With time and reassurance, those things don’t bother me anymore. I just needed a chance to learn that I was safe.

I also enjoy being brushed, love affection and give kisses. My foster says I’m loving and goofy and especially loves my giant feet and beautiful coat.

More than anything, I need a family who understands that trust can take a little time. Give me patience, consistency and love, and I’ll give you the chance to watch that same sweet transformation my foster family has been lucky enough to see.

I’ve already learned how wonderful it is to have a family. Now I’m ready to find the one I’ll get to love forever.
