Balto
Hellos! I am Balto. By now, you know I was impounded due to neglect. Yes, my early years were very hard. Thankfully, GPRA came to my rescue.
If the name Balto is not familiar, let me share the story. Balto was the lead dog of a heroic dog sled team that ran through harsh winter conditions and delivered desperately needed medicine during the 1925 diphtheria epidemic in Alaska. (So, yes, Balto is my hero.)
My wonderful foster mom shared lots of information about me with GPRA. Here are a few things.
“Balto is sweet and has beautiful blue eyes.” (Thank you. Everyone always comments on my baby blues.)
” Balto is energetic, very friendly, affectionate, athletic, and submissive.” (Yes, I am a wonderful boy!)
“Balto walks well on a leash. He does not pull and is friendly towards other walkers. He can get a bit excited when meeting other dogs.” (Yes, I know; but, I’m just so excited to be living a whole new life. With your help and training, it will only take me a short time to improve on my manners.)
“Balto loves kids but may overpower younger kids.” (Yep, I get a bit excited when I see my favorite younger humans. With consistency, patience, and training, my manners will improve, and I will learn to be more careful.)
“Balto is a velcro dog. He loves to be near you all the time.” (I am grateful to be with loving humans.)
“Balto is not afraid of anything.” (I’m trying to live up to my namesake’s heroic story.)
Pyrly-destined to be your hero, Balto

Donate to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta
Our main mission at GPRA is to find the right permanent home for Great Pyrenees in distress, whether they are strays or from an overpopulated kill or no-kill shelter. We don’t care how old they are or what their medical condition is because we will make sure they receive a comprehensive medical evaluation, spaying or neutering, and even behavioral training if necessary.
