DESCRIPTION:Looking for marchers\, volunteers and PYRS for the 2017 Children’s Christmas Parade \nThis year\, Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta has been approved to walk in the 2017 Children Christmas Parade. This is an exciting and fun event to be a part of.  The Parade is Saturday\, December 2\, 2017. The Parade begins at 10:30 am and goes from 16th Street and Peachtree and ends at Peachtree & 5th Street. \nThe Parade benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta\, and is the largest Parade in the Southeast. This Parade does not disappoint with all the different Marching Bands\, the amazing Floats and the giant Balloons. We are thrilled to be invited to this joyous event with our magnificent Polar Pyrs welcoming Santa to town! \nThe Parade is televised live and will also be rebroadcast throughout the Holiday season.  We are one of a few local rescue groups that were accepted this year. This Parade receives local and national attention and we need as many “PYR TEAMS” to march as possible. \nOur goal for this year is 100 dogs. \nGuidelines to march in Parade:\n1. No children under the age of 12 are allowed to participate and will be removed from the route. This will also forfeit any future participation for our group.\n2. No cell phones\, MP3 players or any electronic devices are allowed to be used while participating in the parade.\n3. We are not allowed to distribute any pamphlets or other materials along the parade route.\n4. PYR Teams are comprised of 1 or 2 humans and 1 PYR. No more than 2 humans per PYR.\n5. All participants MUST dress in same and/or similar attire. We are asking that you wear either a GPRA Black Sweatshirt or T-shirt (or plain black shirt) with blue jeans and comfortable shoes. We are allowed to add a festive scarf or a festive hat. We are absolutely not allowed any costumes. GPRA will provide a red scarf for all PYRS to wear.\n6. No other breeds may march with us.\nMore details will follow to participants. \nPlease join us in this wonderful Holiday tradition! \nTo RSVP or if you have any questions\, please email 2017Parade@greatpyratlanta.com \nWe are also in need of volunteers who can help with coordinating our team down the Parade Route. If you have purchased a Gladiators ticket\, you may be inside with a table set up\, depending on the crowd. It is the Gladiator’s policy that no one may enter the building without a ticket to the game. The dogs may enter the building with you\, as long as you are a ticket holder\, but the dogs may not enter the ice rink area where the game is taking place. If the weather does not cooperate while we are there\, only those volunteers with tickets will be allowed to enter the building to get out of the rain.

Many of you have experienced or at least witnessed the journey that many of our PYRS have taken. Thanks to your involvement financially or with your time\, we have rescued PYRS that have been emaciated\, broken boned often requiring amputation\, have had ACL and CCL tears needing surgeries and even PYRS that have been shot. Basically if the dog is a Great Pyrenees\, we take them and those in the worst condition become the most stunning after our families nurture them. \nWe are spending over $1\,000 per dog to rescue as many are heart worm positive and some need expensive surgeries like Molly Dee\, who still needs a foster. We are very fortunate again this year to have our anonymous donor who will match up to $30\,000 between now and Thanksgiving day. In other words\, any donation to GPRA\, whether $20 or $1\,000\, will be matched until Thanksgiving. GPRA is a 501 c 3 non profit so all donations are tax deductible. None of our volunteers get paid and virtually all donations go toward the medical care of our GIANTS.
